Newport Nocturne – 30th August
This is our wonderful biennial town event. Starting during the evening and the final race is in the dark. We usually have Hugh Porter (cycling great!) commentating – you can usually spot Anita Lonsbrough (his wife and gold medal Olympian) at his side.
In 2012 – at long last – there was the first ladies race
and the race winner gets his weight in beer through a huge weighing device!

An alternative to yoghurt
I often buy Alpro soya milk ‘yoghurt’. Not just because it’s vegan, but it really tastes excellent. Sometimes the plain but more often the vanilla. it is deliciously creamy. The ‘natural’ can been used in the morning instead of milk on your cereals, or the vanilla is slightly sweeter and goes well with desserts at the end of an evening meal. For my visitors, I simply have a large carton on the dresser – plain or vanilla.
but they do have lots of other flavours in smaller cartons. My favourite of all is the chocolate dessert! Not suitable for breakfasters though All our family have grown up with this dessert; either eaten this alone or with a pudding as a sort of chocolate custard. Absolutely delicious!
Here are some ideas of things to see and do in Shropshire.
Aqualate Mere- three or four miles away – the largest lake in Staffordshire. with a hide ready for ‘twitchers’. You can walk most of the way there , using our old railway track.
Hodnet Gardens are about 20 minutes drive. They have black swans there.
And another site: Lilleshall Abbey is just 5 minutes away by car, and is free to enter.
Have a great summer!
